Google is advertising a paid Software Engineering PhD Intern opportunity for Summer 2027 in India. The official vacancy describes an internship lasting at least 12 weeks and lets applicants express a location preference for Bengaluru, Hyderabad or Pune. This is a specialist opportunity for students currently pursuing a PhD in software development or another related technical field, not a general undergraduate internship.
Jobsii checked the official vacancy on 5 October 2026. The listing remains available with an Apply entry. Google does not publish the stipend amount, a closing date, an exact joining date or the work mode for this role. Applicants should not assume it is remote simply because applications are submitted online. The official application process requires Google account sign-in.
Employer: Google. Role: Software Engineering PhD Intern, Summer 2027. Opportunity: paid internship. Duration: 12-plus weeks. Location preferences: Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune. Education: currently pursuing a relevant PhD. Compensation amount: not disclosed. Work mode: not disclosed. Deadline: not disclosed. Application route: the official Google Careers vacancy and its Apply entry.
Summer 2027 identifies the advertised internship cycle, not a confirmed individual start date. A preferred location is also not a guaranteed assignment. Google says its recruitment team determines the best fit based on the applicant's resume. Candidates should clarify team allocation, dates and working arrangements with the employer as recruitment progresses.
Applicants must be pursuing a PhD program focused on software development or another related technical field. Google also requires experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages, experience working in Unix or Linux environments, and experience with data structures, algorithms and software design.
Programming examples in the minimum requirements include Java, C/C++, Python, JavaScript and Go. The listing says one or more languages, so candidates should not interpret the examples as a requirement to know every language mentioned. Explain your actual level of experience rather than adding unfamiliar tools to a resume simply to match the advertisement.
The page does not specify a graduation-year batch, minimum GPA, seat count or numerical experience threshold. These omissions do not relax the stated PhD requirement. An undergraduate applicant should not assume eligibility without a separate applicable vacancy. Google also states that English proficiency is required for its roles unless the relevant posting says otherwise.
Preferred qualifications include research experience in algorithms, architecture, artificial intelligence, compilers, databases, data mining, distributed systems, machine learning, networking or systems. Google additionally mentions programming experience in C/C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, Objective-C, Go or similar languages.
These preferences are distinct from the minimum requirements. A relevant research project can help demonstrate fit, but the listing does not promise placement in a particular research group. Applicants should explain the technical question, their own contribution and the evidence supporting their result. A clear description of one substantial project can be more useful than an unsupported list of research topics.
The internship involves engineering work on Google products and large-scale systems. Responsibilities include developing scalable engineering solutions, analysing information, evaluating results to choose solutions, and applying computer science knowledge to real-world problems. The description also discusses AI-integrated software and collaboration across teams.
Google says interns work on a specific project important to its needs. The eventual assignment may differ from an applicant's preferred topic. This is not a promise of a purely academic research placement or an exclusively AI-focused project. Candidates should consider whether they want to combine technical investigation with practical implementation and collaboration in an engineering environment.
The official description explicitly calls this a paid internship lasting 12-plus weeks. However, it does not disclose the stipend amount, currency, payment schedule or payment conditions. Jobsii therefore cannot provide an official monthly salary figure. Third-party estimates or amounts associated with unrelated Google internships should not be presented as compensation for this vacancy.
The listing does not confirm accommodation, relocation support, an exact weekly working schedule or a permanent job offer after the internship. Applicants should clarify these points directly if recruitment advances. Similarly, they should check whether their university's research commitments permit participation during the eventual dates. This is preparation advice, not a university-approval requirement stated by Google.

The private application form was not inspected, so this article does not claim a verified list of mandatory uploads, application questions or supporting documents.
Follow the employer's instructions after signing in and provide accurate details about your ongoing PhD, programming experience and research or engineering work. Do not send an application to Jobsii or assume that opening this guide registers interest with Google. Retain any submission confirmation supplied by the portal and use the official application system for further instructions and status updates.
The following suggestions are independent editorial guidance, not additional employer requirements or a confirmed interview syllabus. Make your current PhD status and relevant technical background easy to find in your resume. For each important project, explain the problem, your contribution, the implementation approach and the result. Use measurements only when you can substantiate them.
Choose examples showing the advertised fundamentals: programming, Unix or Linux, data structures, algorithms and software design. For research-heavy work, be ready to discuss assumptions, limitations and trade-offs. Distinguish findings supported by experiments from hypotheses that remain untested. Explain collaborative work without taking sole credit for contributions made by your research group or engineering team.
If sharing publications, code or project links, check that they are accessible and do not reveal confidential university, employer or collaborator information. A short, accurate technical explanation is preferable to overstating the scope of a prototype. Practise discussing what did not work and how you revised your approach, as well as the successful outcome.
Review fundamentals relevant to your experience, but do not assume that a particular question set, assessment format or recruitment sequence is guaranteed. The vacancy does not disclose its interview stages or selection timetable. Any invitation or instructions received directly from Google should take precedence over generic preparation suggestions in this article.
Confirm that you meet the current PhD requirement and can consider the listed Indian locations. Recheck the employer page for updates before submitting because no public deadline is given. An available application entry at verification time is not a guarantee that the role will remain open indefinitely. If the official listing closes or changes, follow Google's current information rather than an older summary.
Review the role details, deadline, and work mode before applying. Jobsii tracks the apply action so candidates can keep application history inside their dashboard.
