Applications are open for the Science Academies' Summer Research Fellowship Program 2027, a two-month research opportunity for eligible students and college or university teachers studying or teaching in India. Selected fellows receive a monthly fellowship for living expenses and entitled return train fare. The reviewed 2027 announcement does not specify the fellowship amount in rupees.
The programme is jointly offered by the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru; the Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi; and The National Academy of Sciences, India, Prayagraj. Jobsii checked the official announcement, applicant instructions and public application entry on 30 October 2026. The online application deadline is 30 November 2026; a closing hour is not published.
Selected applicants work with an assigned scientist or faculty member associated with the Academies for two months during 2027, preferably in summer. The announcement allows the project to take place at another time during that calendar year. It does not establish one compulsory start date for every participant.
A list of approved research guides is part of the programme's application information. Selection information, with the guide's concurrence, is expected around March–April 2027. This is an approximate communication period, rather than a guaranteed result date.
The research location follows the guide and project arrangement. The coordinating Academy's Bengaluru address is not a promise that every fellowship takes place there. A universal remote-work option, daily timetable and host accommodation package are not specified in the reviewed announcement.
Being enrolled in a science-related course is not sufficient by itself: the instructions restrict applications to particular study years. BS or BSc students must be in their second year; BSc Research students in their third; and BStat or BMath students in their second.
BE, BTech and BCA applicants can be in their second or third year. BArch applicants can be in their second, third or fourth year. BPharm and PharmD applicants are listed for their third or fourth year.
For postgraduate courses, the first year is eligible for MS, MSc, MVSc, MPharm, ME, MTech, MCA, MArch, MStat and MMath. MSc Tech is separately listed for the first or second year.
The table includes the second, third and fourth years for the listed five-year integrated MS, MSc and MTech programmes, MBBS and BVSc, and the dual-degree combinations BTech plus MTech, BE plus MSc, and BS plus MS. Check the official table against your precise course structure, especially where your institution uses a different programme name.
There is an important distinction for doctoral study. The instructions exclude PhD students generally while specifically including the first and second years of Integrated PhD programmes in the eligibility table. Applicants should retain that distinction when identifying their course, and seek clarification from the programme coordinator if their classification is unclear.
Student applicants need an average of at least 65% in core subjects, excluding languages, across the completed academic record from Class 10 through the applicable postgraduate years. The instructions do not describe this as a cutoff based solely on the latest semester. Prepare the underlying marksheets before entering your academic information.
Teachers must currently teach at a college or university. The student minimum-marks requirement does not apply to teacher applicants. The programme invites applicants from the recognised or accredited institutional categories described in its announcement, including private universities; it does not advertise an elite-institute-only restriction.
Anyone who has already received the Academies' fellowship twice is ineligible to apply again. The reviewed pages do not give a fixed 2027 seat count, a numerical age limit or a mandatory number of years of employment. No guaranteed selection odds can be inferred from those omissions.
The official support consists of a monthly fellowship toward living expenses at the research location and entitled round-trip train fare. An amount from an older year's programme should not be substituted for an undisclosed 2027 rate. The notice also does not specify the travel class, payment schedule or a separate accommodation entitlement.
Before accepting, confirm the host location, dates and applicable financial terms through the official selection communication. This is a short research fellowship; the announcement does not promise admission to a degree programme or an employment offer afterwards.
Both student and teacher applicants must upload marksheets from Class 10 through their latest examination. The required format is JPEG, with each marksheet file no larger than 700 KB. Complete every mandatory field marked with an asterisk.
The application also requires an original write-up of about 150–250 words. Explain a specific research interest and what you want to learn or achieve. An experiment or theoretical question may be included. A general description of a broad field is insufficient, and the instructions prohibit copying the write-up from another source.
Student applicants provide the contact details of a current teacher familiar with their work. The Academy then approaches that teacher for the recommendation in its prescribed format. Teacher applicants upload publications if they have any. If selected, they must send the required Principal or Head of Department authorisation granting permission or leave by post to the coordinator.
Use the official instructions and registration entry linked below. The instructions page displays a registration button. Jobsii inspected the public entry pages without registering or submitting an application; later application screens were not completed.
Only one application is permitted for each person. The instructions warn that submitting multiple applications causes all of that person's applications to be excluded. False information can lead to cancellation and repayment of fellowship and travel support already received. Save the registration number issued after submission and use it in subsequent correspondence.
Initial applications and marksheets are submitted online; do not send hard copies at the application stage. The later postal authorisation required from selected teachers is a separate step. The site also instructs applicants to avoid apostrophes and unsupported special or scientific characters in the form. Review your text for these technical restrictions before submitting.
Choose one manageable research question and explain why it interests you, what preparation you already have and what you hope to investigate. Ask your teacher about providing a recommendation early, and check that the contact details are accurate. These are editorial preparation suggestions, not additional Academy eligibility rules or a promise of selection.
